A stretcher or support, for use in therapy, comprises parts 10 and 11 connected by bars 17, 18 at least one bar being movable transversely of the support. This enables removable support plates to be placed in different locations in the gap between parts 10, 11 to give various alternative configurations (Figs. 3-5, not shown) of absorbing and non-absorbing areas, thus aiding the therapy procedure. Each bar (e.g. 18) is supported between arms (23, 24), the arms themselves being mounted at their other ends in shafts (25, 26), rotatable within the bodies of parts 10, 11, respectively, such that the whole (bar, arms and shafts) form a cranklike member which can move through 180 degrees between two extreme positions which are dictated by spring plunger stops. In another embodiment, this crank arrangement is in the form of an integral member (Fig. 8, not shown) whose movement is limited by pin stops. The body parts 10, 11 are of arcuate crosssection, the upper surface being a steel plate covered with vinyl film and the lower of aluminium, the space between being filled with polyurethane foam. The removable plates or panels may be of a plastics material.
