Wireless communication network switchable between a mesh and a point to point structure.

A process control wireless communication network 100 has a base node 101, field nodes and environmental nodes 104 and a host. The base node 101 is coupled to the host and nodes 104, via wireless conversion and transceiver units. The wireless transceivers are able to effect mesh and point-to-point wireless communications. A switch (105, fig 4) converts the network from a mesh communications network to a point-to-point communications network and vice versa.
