The tool unit (1) comprises housing (3), a tool (4) or a tool holder and a mechanical interface (6) for mounting the tool unit to a base unit (7) of an electric tool (2) and for receiving a drive (8) of the base unit. A conversion unit (9) is provided for the mechanical conversion of a pivoting movement of the drive to a movement for the tool unit. A communication unit (10) is provided for transferring the data of the tool unit to another communication unit (11) of the base unit. A data memory (12) comprises the data provided for transfer. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) an electric tool with a base unit and a tool unit; and (2) a method for operating an electric tool.
