PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel optical transmission material having low transmission loss (at 850 nm) on a practical level, solder heat resistance (high Tg), low CTE, low birefringence, full flexibility and solution workability together, and contains alicyclic polyimide, and to provide an optical waveguide that uses the optical transmission material. SOLUTION: The optical transmission material is constituted of a polyimide having a repeating unit represented by general formula 1, wherein X is a divalent aromatic group or an aliphatic group, and the optical waveguide constructed by using the optical transmission material is also provided.
