PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for cleaning molten metal with which in a pumping-out chamber for holding the molten metal, the cleaning degree of the molten metal is raised and also, the solidification of the molten metal and slag in the inner part of the pumping-out chamber is prevented. SOLUTION: The molten metal cleaning apparatus 1 is provided with a rotating rotor 10 for stirring the molten metal Y and also exhausting inert gas; a first driving part for rotating the rotating rotor 10; a holder tool 11 for movably holding the rotating rotor 10; and a moving means 12 for moving the rotating rotor 10 along the holding tool 11 at the upper part of the pumping-out chamber 4.
