<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of properly performing operation for adjusting the focus of a projection lens, even when a video is faint because the focus of the projection lens is improper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal projector 1 includes the projection lens 13 for projecting and displaying the video and a control unit 20 performing control for adjusting the focus of the projection lens 13. A focus adjustment mode for adjusting the focus of the projection lens 13, and a zoom adjustment mode and a lens shift adjustment mode are switched by the same operation. The liquid crystal projector 1 includes a video signal processing section 15 performing control so as to display an image including color showing that it is in the focus adjustment mode, as the video, in the focus adjustment mode.
