A hinge plate halfsection 11 adapted to be rigidly secured to another similar half-section to form a full hinge plate 10 a number of which are pivotally interconnected to provide a lazytongs structure for a folding closure comprises a main plate portion 18 having sleeve portions 20 along one end to receive a pintle 17, and a projecting attachment portion 23 having a section 26 defining a transverse semicircular groove-like enlargement which co-operates with the similar enlargement on the other half-section to form a sleeve for a hinge pin 13, the section 26 being spaced inwardly from the end of the attachment portion 23 to provide face-to-face contact of the attachment portions of the two halfsections over an area extending both inwardly and outwardly from the aligned groove-like enlargements. The half-sections form a hinge plate which is stepped as shown in Fig. 5, the parts 25, 27 and 28 being secured together by spot welding, and strengthening ribs 22 are provided on the main plate portions 18. In a modification (Figs. 6-8, not shown) each half-section is formed with projecting locking ears 40 which extend through slots 41 in the other half-section and are then crimped over to secure the half-sections together.
