Provided is a display device wherein safety countermeasures are taken for passengers in a vehicle. A display device (1) is provided with a base section (21); a display section (24) turnably attached on one end side of the base section (21) through a first shaft (22); a first motor (41) for opening and closing the display section (21) between a storing position and a use position; and a drive control means for drive-controlling the first motor (41). The display device (1) for a mobile object is also provided with a holding means for holding the display section (24) at the use position; a detecting means for detecting a shock applied to the mobile object; and a releasing means for releasing holding of the display section (24) by the holding means, in the case where a shock applied to the mobile object is detected by the detecting means when the display section (24) is held at the use position.
