PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joining method for easily joining butted portions of a pair of metal members together, and for improving air-rightness and water-tightness at the joined portion. SOLUTION: The joining method for joining together butted portions J8 of a structure (metal members N to be joined together) formed by butting against each other a flat plate 14 and a rectangular member R4 which are the metal members, includes a friction stir welding step in which a friction stir welding is applied to the butted portions J8 from the outer surface A side of the structure, after a welding step is performed, in which welding is applied to the butted portions J8 from the inner surface B side of the structure.
