<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device and an image forming apparatus using the same capable of accurately and immediately determining the presence/absence of conveyance anomaly even after occurrence of a jam of a recording medium and notifying the anomaly to a user. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device includes a fixing belt 2 wound around a fuser roller 4 and a heating roller 3 including a heater 6 inside, a pressure roller 5 brought into face-to-face contact with the fuser roller 4 while putting the fixing belt 2 between them for forming a nip part N through which transfer paper P is passed, a temperature detection means having a noncontact thermistor 108 detecting surface temperature of the fixing belt 2 in an area brought into contact with the heating roller 3 without any contact, a temperature control means controlling the heater 6 based on the detected temperature by the temperature detection means for controlling temperature of the fixing belt 2 to a predetermined temperature, and a conveyance condition determining means determining conveyance anomaly of the transfer paper P when the detected temperature by the temperature detection means is less than a threshold temperature.
