<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool holder which can prevent displacement of the tool even when an excessive lateral force is applied to the front end of the tool which is chucked by a tapered collet, the tool holder comprising a collet chuck body, a tapered collet fitted into a tapered hole at the front end of the collet chuck body, and a cylindrical locknut which is threadably mounted on the front end of the collet chuck body and pushes the tapered collet against the tapered hole to reduce the diameter of the tapered collet. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tapered collet 21 comprises a collar part 24 which is formed on the outer diameter side as compared with a tool insertion hole 23 and on the front end side as compared with a tapered face 22. A locknut 31 comprises a female screw 32 provided on the inner circumference of the locknut 31 threadably mounted on a male screw 17 formed on the outer circumference of the front end of a collet chuck body 11, and a front end opening part 33 that is provided on the front end side of the locknut 31 and surrounds the outer diameter edge of the collar part 24. The front end opening part 33 and the collar part 24 satisfy the following requirement: ϕd-0.03 [mm]≤ϕD≤ϕd wherein ϕD represents the inner diameter of the front end opening part 33; and ϕd represents the outer diameter of the collar part 24, in a free state, which does not undergo a diameter reduction.
