<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection accuracy of an abnormal shadow candidate, as regards an apparatus and method for supporting image diagnosing, and a program. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Detection processing of the abnormal shadow candidate is performed to a chest frontal image (step S2), the area of an anatomical structure is extracted from the chest frontal image (step S4), and the three-dimensional positional relation of the abnormal shadow candidate and the anatomical structure in the chest frontal image is estimated (step S5). On the basis of the positional relation, the detection object area of the abnormal shadow candidate in a chest profile image is determined (step S6), and the detection processing of the abnormal shadow candidate is performed to the detection object area (step S7). When the abnormal shadow candidate is detected from the detection object area (step S8: YES), it is determined that the abnormal shadow candidate detected from the chest frontal image is truly positive (step S9). When the abnormal shadow candidate is not detected from the detection object area (step S8: NO), it is determined that the abnormal shadow candidate detected from the chest frontal image is falsely positive (step S10).
