The present invention relates to a swash plate-type variable displacement compressor and comprises a housing, a drive shaft that is installed inside said housing to enable rotation, a swash plate that is installed inside said housing so as to undergo rotational movement while varying the slope angle, a lug plate that delivers power to said swash plate, a force-exertion spring that is supported between said lug plate and the front face of the swash plate, and a piston that undergoes reciprocating motion by said swash plate and slide movement, further comprising a gap part that is formed on the outer circumference of said drive shaft and has a step jaw so as to induce gaps, a snap ring that is attached at said gap part isolated from the rear of said swash plate, and a return ring that is equipped at said gap part so as to move along the gap part by the elastic force of a return spring, one side of which is supported by said snap ring, whereby one end is held at said step jaw upon maximum movement toward said swash plate and the other end is held at said snap ring upon maximum movement in the opposite direction. According to the present invention, while the swash plate must maintain a minimum slope angle, one end of the return ring supports the rear of the swash plate and the other end is held by the snap ring so that the swash plate can maintain a minimum slope angle regardless of manufacturing deviation in the spring constant of the return spring.
