The method involves determining the current position of a patient (2) and an imaging device (6) fixed to a carrier (8) with a navigation system (14) by position markers (10,12) fitted to the patient and also to the imaging device or its carrier. A deviation of the current position of the imaging device to the patient from the reference position is determined with the help of the navigation system on the basis of a known reference position of the imaging device to the patient.
