<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing drying machine drying with reduced power consumption without discharging high-humidity air in a room, achieving energy-saving drying operation to reduce power consumption, and causing the transition to normal operation without energy-saving when a disadvantage to prolong the drying operation time occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this washing and drying machine, during drying, the air circulates through in the order of a blowing means, a heating means, an outer tub 20 and the blowing means. In the drying operation during drying, circular drying operation of circulating the air in the washing and drying machine or the exhaust drying operation of discharging the whole or part of the air discharged from a rotary drum 29 or the inner tub through a drain hose 9 can be selected. The drying operation is controlled to cause the transition to the circular drying operation or stop the exhaust drying operation when failure occurs in exhaust from a drainage passage including a drainage hose 99 in the exhaust drying operation.
