PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an electric double layer capacitor that has superior affinity with an electrolyte and an extremely high voltage holding efficiency percentage. SOLUTION: The separator for the electric double layer capacitor is obtained by performing electrolyte affinity processing on a nonwoven fabric laminate formed by laminating melt-blow nonwoven fabric made of≥2 layers of fiber of an olefin-based polymer, and characterized in that the fiber of the laminated melt-blow nonwoven fabric has a mean fiber diameter of 0.5 to 3μm, and the nonwoven fabric laminate has a fiber density of≤50 g/m<SP>2</SP>and a surface center line maximum roughness (Rt value) of≤35μm.
