A drive assist device and method is provided which can avoid confusion imposed on drivers by an arrow signal. The drive assist device (1) comprises an infrastructure information receiver (2) for receiving infrastructure information from an infrastructure device set up on the road, a navigation (3) for acquiring various pieces of information including information on the road whereon the self-vehicle is traveling, a self-vehicle state monitoring sensor (4) for monitoring the state of the self-vehicle, and ECU (6). The ECU (6) includes a signal passability judging portion (7) for judging whether the self-vehicle can pass a signal or not and a signal wait time notification controlling portion (8) which, when it is judged by the signal passability judging portion (7) that the self-vehicle cannot pass the signal, determines a period of time for the self-vehicle to wait at stoplights and makes a display portion (5) display the period of wait time. The signal passability judging portion (7) judges not only a red light but also a combination of a red light and an arrow and a subsequent yellow light unpassable. |
