The method involves sawing parallel vertical longitudinal sections (20-22) in a surface of foam in paths that are arranged parallel to each other. A material is detached by a horizontal section (59) between two of the vertical longitudinal sections (20, 22). Depth of the horizontal section is greater than or equal to depth of the foam. The detached material is removed from a work area. Four wheels (2-5) are arranged on a frame (1) of a vertical cutting device. An independent claim is also included for a device for straightening surfaces of flat roofs coated with foam.
