PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact visual display device allowing clear observation of an image in the distance at a wide observation field angle. SOLUTION: The visual display device 1 is constructed of an image display element 3, a projection optical system 4 projecting an image displayed in the image display element 3, an eyepiece optical system 5 having a first reflection face 5a and a second reflection face 5b having positive reflection power to project the image projected by the projection optical system 4 as a virtual image in the distance, and a diffusion face 11 disposed in the vicinity of the image projected by the projection optical system 4. In the visual display device 1, the image projected by the projection optical system 4 is arranged in an optional position inside the plane crossing the optical axis 2 of the projection optical system 4 at right angles to draw a circular arc.
