PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new chromium-free compound oxide black pigment having performances comparable to a copper-chromium-manganese compound oxide black pigment. SOLUTION: The compound oxide black pigment contains copper oxide, manganese oxide, cobalt oxide and aluminum oxide, wherein proportions of copper, manganese, cobalt and aluminum constituting the pigment are 5 to 30 mol% of copper, 5 to 30 mol% of manganese, 15 to 40 mol% of cobalt, and 25 to 50 mol% of aluminum, when the total of these metals is regarded as 100 mol%.
