<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophilic member having high hydrophilicity, which is free from cracks in the hydrophilic coating surface, while having excellent adhesion between the base and the hydrophilic coating and excellent scratch resistance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method for producing the hydrophilic member includes applying a hydrophilic composition containing at least one hydrophilic polymer onto the base including metal or resin, performing heat treatment to the base with the hydrophilic composition in a coil shape or roll shape, and setting the surface roughness Ra of the hydrophilic coating after the heat treatment to 80-150% to the surface roughness Ra of the hydrophilic coating before the heat treatment.
