The present invention relates to a carbonaceous lithium titanium oxide containing spherical particle aggregates having a diameter of 1-80 µm, which consist of carbon-coated lithium titanium oxide primary particles. The present invention further relates to a method for producing such a carbonaceous lithium titanium oxide and an electrode containing such a carbonaceous lithium titanium oxide as an active material and to a lithium secondary ion battery containing an aforementioned electrode.
