PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose derivative and a resin composition excellent in thermoplasticity, strength and breaking elongation, and suitable for molding. SOLUTION: The cellulose derivative is obtained by replacing at least a part of hydrogen atoms of hydroxy groups contained in a cellulose with a hydrocarbon group and an aliphatic carbonate group or aromatic carbonate group.
