PURPOSE: A method for screening a material for whitening using an NDRG2 gene is provided to suppress expression and activation of MITF and tyrosinase. CONSTITUTION: A method for screening a whitening material comprises: a step of treating a candidate to cells expressing an NDRG2 gene; and a step of measuring expression variation of the NDRG2 gene and selecting the material enhancing the expression of the NDRG2 gene. The cells expression NDRG2 gene is melanoma or melanocytes.
