METHOD FOR PRODUCING TITANIA-SILICA GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titania-silica glass where the exposure of striae at least in a mask-forming region of a sheet-like body is suppressed when a porous glass body made by depositing soot is transparentized and processed to the sheet-like body.

SOLUTION: The titania-silica glass is produced by such steps: a step (S101) to introduce a titania raw material and a silica raw material into an oxyhydrogen flame, to deposit titania-silica glass fine particles on a rotating substrate and to make the porous glass body by growing the fine particles; a step (S102) to make a block-like porous glass body by grinding the porous glass body; a step (S103) to make a block-like transparent glass body by vertically pressing the bottom of a mold having a recessed part whose bottom is flat to a depositing and growing direction of the porous glass body while the block-like porous glass body is heated and transparentized; and a step (S104) to make the sheet-like body by cutting the transparent glass body to a parallel direction with a contacting surface of the bottom.
