<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which includes optical characteristics of a high refractivity and low scattering. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element is obtained by vacuum sintering a mold of ceramic particles consisting of Ln<SB>x</SB>Al<SB>y</SB>O<SB>[x+y]×1.5</SB>having an average particle diameter of 1μm or larger but 10μm or smaller, where Ln is a rare earth group element, x satisfies 1≤x≤10, and y satisfies 1≤y≤5. It is desirable that Ln is at least one or more kinds selected from among Y, La, Gd, Yb, and Lu. This optical element desirably includes a transmissivity with a refractivity of 1.8 or larger.
