PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, program and apparatus for processing a photographic image, which specifies a variation width of noise from photographic image data, thereby effectively suppressing the noise. SOLUTION: The method for processing the photographic image includes: a noise variation width specification step of obtaining the variation width of the noise by two regression lines using as variables, each of an average value, the maximum value, the minimum value of each density value of a plurality of flat image regions searched from density component image data; a noise suppression intensity calculation step of obtaining noise variation width with respect to an optional noticing pixel from each regression line to calculate noise suppression intensity from the noise variation width; a density compatible filter coefficient generation step of dynamically calculating a filter coefficient of a weighted average filter with size corresponding to the density component image databased on a density differential value between the noticing pixel and surrounding pixels and the noise suppression intensity; and a density compatible noise suppression processing step of performing weighted average filter processing on the density component image databased on the filter coefficient.
