PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation apparatus for controlling hair growth preventing a contact with an optical panel having a high temperature while preventing scattering of fragments due to breaking or the like of a light emitting body. SOLUTION: The light ion apparatus for controlling hair growth includes: a light emitting section 1 emitting a light for controlling the growth of body hair of a treated skin; an optical panel 2 transmitting the light emitted by the light emitting section 1 and irradiating the outside; and a tubular body section 72 provided surrounding the optical panel 2, defining its end as a skin contact surface 73, and bringing the skin contact surface 73 in contact with the treated skin to prevent the leakage of the light emitted from the light emitting section 1 to the outside. The light emitting section 1 is formed of a light emitting body 11 and a reflection lampshade 12 storing the light emitting body 11 in its inside, and the opening peripheral edge 120 of the reflection lampshade 12 is so disposed as to be located in the inner side of the apparatus body with respect to the skin contact surface 73.
