PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tilt sensor which can achieve thinning. SOLUTION: In the tilt sensor A1 having a light-emitting element 4 and light-receiving elements 5A, 5B separately arranged in a plane direction of a detection target plane, a rolling element 6 having a perfect shielding position where light from the light-emitting element 4 reaches neither of the light-receiving elements 5A, 5B on the basis of change of the gravity direction in the plane direction, a pair of semi-shielding position where the light from the light-emitting element 4 reaches only either of the light-receiving elements 5A, 5B, and a non-shielding position where the light from the light-emitting element 4 reaches all the light-receiving elements 5A, 5B, and an air gap section 3 for housing the rolling element 6, the tilt sensor A1 also comprises a case 2, a mounting base board mounted on the case 2 and mounting the light-receiving elements 5A, 5B on the surface, and a cover base board mounted at an opposite side of the mounting base board on the case 2. The air gap section 3 is surrounded by a side face 20 of the case 2, the mounting base board, and the surface of the cover base board, and is also surrounded by the light-emitting element 4 and the light-receiving elements 5A, 5B in the plane direction.
