1,125,759. Bearings. LINDE A.G. 10 Dec., 1965 [11 Dec., 1964], No. 52531/65. Heading F2A. [Also in Division F1] A shaft bearing assembly supporting the shaft of an expansion turbine comprises a gas bearing in a first region at a temperature lower than room temperature, and an oil lubricated bearing in a second region at a higher temperature than the first region. In Fig. 1 pressurized gas is supplied through branch 11 of supply line 7 to the gas bearing 9 and is discharged from line 12. Shaft portion 131, secured to thrust-ring 132, is journalled in an oil bearing, pressurized oil being supplied by line 15 and discharging into track 17. Gas leaking from bearing 9 flows along the shaft towards +he oil bearing to prevent oil penetration. Ring 134 acts with ring 132 as an hydraulic brake. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the gas bearing is part-spherical and the oil bearing comprises a tapered shaft portion (31) supported in an axially movable ring to facilitate braking. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a ring (43) on shaft (42) has an inclined surface (47) engaging adjustable bearing pads, and an outer surface engaging an axially movable bush (46). In Fig. 4 (not shown), a braking ring (51) is adjusted by pressurized oil.
|
