<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately restore a subject image even in an unknown subject distance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus is an optical system nearly keeping a spread of light from the object point substantially constant regardless of the distance to the object point. The image processing apparatus includes: an image acquisition section for acquiring an image captured through the optical system, where an optical transfer function depends on the amount of defocus; an image processing section for performing correction processing for correcting the spread of light corresponding to a specified amount of defocus to the image, based on the optical transfer function of the optical system according to the specified amount of defocus; and an image generation section for overlapping a plurality of corrected images generated by allowing the image processing section to perform different correction processing corresponding to a different amount of defocus to the each image to generate a composited image.
