The device has light sources on a carrier material provided with optical arrangements individually or in groups for focusing their light beams onto illumination points or regions in the foreground. Light sources can be switched on and off individually and/or in groups, the light distribution can be adjusted as required within the sources' arrangement/alignment capabilities and at least some sources have a shade to give a dipped beam effect. The device has a light source arrangement with a number of light sources on a carrier material and provided with optical arrangements individually or in groups for focusing the light beams from the light sources onto several illumination points or regions in the foreground of the vehicle. Light sources can be switched on and off individually and/or in groups, the light distribution can be adjusted as required within the arrangement and alignment capabilities of the sources and at least some sources are provided with a shade to give a dipped beam effect.
