Shaped articles other than thread or films are obtained by mixing polyamides or polyurethanes with not more than 2 per cent of xylenes or homologues thereof having at least two aliphatically bound H atoms substituted by halogens e.g. bischloromethylene m-xylene, bisbromo methylene m-xylene and p-xylylene dichloride; the mixing being continued until the granules are coated with the xylenes, and then extruding the mixture in the usual extruder used for processing plastics (1) granules of a polyamide of sp. viscosity 1.4 obtained by polymerization of e -caprolactam in presence of phosphoric or acetic acid as stabilizer were rolled for 30 seconds with 0.5 per cent by weight of bis chloromethylene m-xylene; the granules were extruded horizontally through a table extruder (2) as in (1) employing bis-p-xylylene dichloride (3) a polyamide obtained by polymerization of e -caprolactam in presence of phosphoric acid is rolled with 0.5 per cent bisbromomethylene m-xylene, 1 per cent cadmium yellow 1 per cent cadmium red and 0.5 per cent carbon black (4) granules of a polyurethane prepared from hexamethylene diisocyanate and 1:4 butane diol were similarly mixed with 0.5 parts by wt. of bisbromomethylene-m-xylene. |
