PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal displacement correction device and a thermal displacement correction method for a machine tool capable of making a correction amount approximate to an actual stretching amount of a ball screw shaft. SOLUTION: The ball screw shaft 81 is divided to sections of limited number over the whole length in a longitudinal direction. Data of a present position of and a feeding speed of a nut part 8a are input to a calorific value operation circuit 19 in every 50 ms, and a calorific value of the nut part 8a is determined. After 6,400 ms is passed, existence probability of the nut part 8a is calculated from a total heating value Q<SB>TTL</SB>by a temperature distribution operation circuit 21, and the total heating value is distributed to the divided sections using the calorific value of the nut part 8a. The temperature distribution of each section is determined using the calorific value in every section, and a thermal displacement amount of each section is calculated by the temperature distribution.
