PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anthracene derivative emitting blue to green light, a highly efficient, long-life light-emitting element, a high-quality, highly reliable light-emitting device, and an electronic appliance. SOLUTION: The anthracene derivative is represented by formula (1) (wherein Ar1, Ar3, Ar5and Ar6independently represent 6-13C aryl group; Ar2and Ar4independently represent 6-13C arylene group; and R1to R8independently represent hydrogen or 1-4C alkyl group).
