<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a driver recognize an obstacle by quickly detecting the obstacle. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This image recognition device detects the traveling condition of a vehicle and determines the search position of an obstacle in an input image caught by an on-vehicle camera, on the basis of the detected traveling condition. Then, the image recognition device sequentially performs template matching by using a template of the input image photographed with the on-vehicle camera and subjected to preprocessing, from the determined search position to the entire input image to search for the obstacle.
