The invention relates to a method for making a security document comprising a fibrous material shaped in a paper machine, in which a security element (1) is incorporated into the security document, said method comprising a step consisting of treating the security element (1) in-line at atmospheric pressure with a plasma discharge (2) just before the security element is incorporated into the fibrous material or transferred onto a sheet exiting the paper machine.
