1,144,248. Coated plastics. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 3 June, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 24869/66. Headings B2E and B2K. A method of treating the surface of any of the following polymers: polyarylene sulphides, polyvinyl aromatics, polyvinylidene halides, polyvinyl halides, polyacetals, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyvinyl esters, copolymers of vinyl esters with 1-olefines, polyamides and mixtures of two or more thereof, or the surface of solid articles formed from such polymers, to reduce the tendency of such surface to accumulate electrostatic charge comprises applying to said surface in an amount of 1 x 10<SP>-5</SP> to 50 x 10<SP>-5</SP> gms. sq. cm., a coating of one or more dialkanomides of the formula:- where R is a C 6 -C 16 alkyl and n is 2, 3 or 4. Many suitable dialkanolamides which are preferably applied in a solution containing an anti-oxidant and an ultra-violet stabiliser are specified. Exemplified polymers are polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl-fluoride, polyvinylidene chloride, polycarbonates derived from 2:2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane, polyvinylacetate, copolymers of vinyl acetate and ethylene, polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide and polycaprolactam. |
