METHOD FOR PERMITTING A UE TO CONDITIONALLY ACCESS AN EVOLVED PACKET CORE NETWORK

Method for permitting a User Equipment (UE) to conditionally access an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network, when the UE is requesting the access to the EPC network using a non-3GPP access network. The EPC network retrieves device identity of the UE, verifies the device identity of the UE using an Equipment Identity Register (EIR) and then permits the UE to access the EPC network based on the verification of the device identity of the UE. The device identity is retrieved by using attribute value pairs (AVP) of EAP messages, wherein the AVPs may be vendor specific EAP AVPs. The device identity of the UE may include an IMEI code of the UE as a first device identity, or may include a second device identity, which is based on a type of network access by the UE. The EPC network, upon verifying the device identity of the UE with the EIR, permits the UE to access the EPC network when the UE is verified as an authorized communication device or denies permission to the UE to access the EPC network when the UE is verified as an unauthorized communication device.
