The airbag system (S) has an airbag (20), which is arranged in a seat area (3) of a seat (1) for limiting a forward movement of an occupant (M), who sits in the seat, by activation. The airbag is so arranged that it is laid out on a seat pan (4) in an interior of the seat area. An upper wall section and a lower wall section are arranged one above the other, so that the airbag is inflated, when an inflation gas flows in it, so that the upper wall section moves upward away from the lower wall section, and a front side of the seat area is raised.
