<p>A composition which is convertible at room temperature to a solid elastic state and useful as non-skid coating comprises (1) a silanol chain-terminated diorganopolysiloxane, (2) an inert semi-reinforcing filler (3) an organic solvent and (4) a major proportion of a silane-treated sand. The sand, which may be a powdered quartz with particle size between 20 and 200 U.S. Standard mesh, may be treated with a hydrolysable silane, e.g. methyl triethoxysilane. The semi-reinforcing filler may have a surface area of 1.0 to 25 square metres per gram. The composition preferably has a viscosity of 2000 to 20,000 centipoises at 25 DEG C. and the polysiloxane a viscosity of 1000 to 100,000 centipoises at 25 DEG C. A preferred composition comprises: 100 parts of (1); 100 to 600 parts (2); 30 to 90 parts (3); and 200 to 1200 parts (4). The composition may include as curing additives from 0.1 to 10 parts of an organosilicate, e.g. polyethyl silicate and 0.1 to 5 parts of a metal salt of an organic monocarboxylic acid, e.g. dibutyl tin dilaurate.</p> |
