<p><PICT:1071788/C1/1> To shape the edges of a continuous band 1 of flat glass in the plastic state, a curved ledge 2 engages the edge of the band, the inclination of the ledge 2 changing in the direction of movement of the band continuously from the direction parallel to the band into the direction longitudinally perpendicular to the band and further into a direction inclined towards the centre of the band so that the edge becomes progressively bent with the inclination of the ledge 2. For a horizontal band when the ledge 2 becomes vertical and after, support plates 3 are provided below the band edge and an inclined support 4 is provided as the edge is bent over towards the centre. Before being curved to shape, the ledge 2 may be flat or be longitudinally profiled.</p> |
