<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, which efficiently manufactures the magnetic recording medium with excellent surface smoothness. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A web W with a magnetic layer 12 formed on one surface thereof is nipped using a pair of calender rolls 16 and 18. A web tension at a nip exit E along a conveying direction is set within a predetermined range, and the web W is wrapped on the calender roll 16 on a magnetic layer side at a wrap angle θ within a range larger than 0° and smaller than 180° from the nip exit E. By this means, it is possible to obtain a smooth magnetic layer by nipping the magnetic layer 12 at the calender rolls 16 and 18 and perform calendering stably without interruption.
