<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of breaking (cutting) a porous member, capable of obtaining a broken surface set properly to a state such that the cross-sectional properties, when applied to a porous member comprising a hydrophobic resin, are placed in order. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for of breaking the porous member made of a synthetic resin constituted of a hydrophobic synthetic resin material includes an impregnation step (step S10) for impregnating the porous member with an alcohol; a freezing step (step S20) for freezing the porous member impregnated with alcohol; and a breaking step (step S30) for breaking the frozen porous member.
