PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston made of an aluminum alloy for an internal combustion engine which has excellent wear resistance, high temperature strength and heat resistance while securing its practical castability and machinability. SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy having a hypereutectic composition composed of, by weight, 14.5 to 15% Si, 3.0 to 3.5% Cu, 0.8 to 1.3% Mg, 2.0 to 2.5% Ni, 0.05 to 0.15% Ti and 0.009 to 0.012% P, and the balance substantially Al is subjected to gravity die casting so as to produce the piston for an internal combustion engine.
