PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device which allows the power-off function of the display device (TV receiver) to operate even when a no-operational state continues for a predetermined period of time during video input, and to provide a video playback device for input of the video to the video display device. SOLUTION: The video playback device 11 includes: an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) communication unit 6 for conducting two-way communication between connected destination equipment; a user interface 7 for output of operation information corresponding to the user operation; and a control unit 5 for informing the operation of the user interface by an HDMI-CEC (high-definition multimedia interface-consumer electronics control) command to the equipment of the opposite party through the communication unit.
