The heating unit (26) has an electrically operable positive temperature coefficient auxiliary heater (24) for heating air flow directed into vehicle interior (12) and for preheating the vehicle interior. The heater preheats a component (36) i.e. traction battery, supplied with a cooling water flow. The heater preheats an operating unit (38) of a motor vehicle (10) supplied with the water flow. The heater is arranged for heating the water flow at a heat exchanger (30) in a circuit of the water flow. The heater is integrated in the heat exchanger.
