PURPOSE: A gene carrier is provided to ensure low toxicity due to the low molecular weight of polyethyleneimine and to improve the efficiency of a gene transfer protecting a transferred gene. CONSTITUTION: A compound or its salts or ester compounds have a structure represented by chemical formula (1). In chemical formula (1), n is an integer of 1-4; m is a repeating unit of a different or identical integer; k is an integer of 1-8; at least a part of X is -NH-A and the rest is -OH; A is -CH2CH2-(NHCH2CH2)Z-NHCH2CH2NH2; and Z is a repeating unit of an integer.
