PURPOSE: A software upgrade method and a broadcast system are provided to upgrade software without the purchase of additional media, thereby reducing inconvenience in software upgrade. CONSTITUTION: According to a first protocol, an external server(130) transmits first software. An external resource(120) downloads the first software transmitted from the external server in a pre-allocated storage area. According to a second protocol, a broadcast receiver(110) mounts the storage area of the external resource. The broadcast receiver downloads the first software from the mounted storage area. The broadcast receiver upgrades second software.
