<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a distance to a subject. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image pickup device is provided with: an optical system which is an optical system having a focal point different in a wavelength region, has a substantial constant optical transmission function for the distance to an object point by modulating the wavefront of light from the object point for light of the same wavelength region, and modulates the wavefront of light from the object point into a different inclination in accordance with the distance to the object point; an image pickup section for picking up each of images depending on light having passed through the optical system and having different wavelength region; and a position specifying section for specifying a subject distance as a distance to the subject on the basis of the object position indicating the same subject in a plurality of picked-up images.
